THE CORE MOTIVATION FOR PRAYER TEAM MINISTRY
Empathy — the heart of intercession (vs. giving answers,fixing the problem, spouting off
“spiritual insights”) Jesus was moved to pray not so much by faith, but by the compassion that overcame him for
those that suffered.
Matt.
9:36 - When he saw the crowds, he had
compassion for them, because they Were harassed and helpless like sheep without a
shepherd.
Matt, 14:14 - When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them and cured their
sick.
Matt. 15:32 - Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said,”! have compassion for the crowd, because they
have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat; and I do not want to send them away
hungry for they might faint on the way?’
Matt. 20:34 -
Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes. Immediately they
regained their sight and followed him.
Mark 6:34 - As he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them, because they were like
sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.
Mark 8:2 - “I have compassion for the crowd, because they have been with me now for three days and have
nothing to eat.
Luke 7:13 - When the Lord saw her, he had compassion for her and said to her,”Do not
weep"
Luke 15:20 - So he set off and went to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him and was
filled with compasslon; he ran and put his arms around him and kissed him.
Phil. 1:8 - For God is my witness, howl long for all of~u with the compassion of Christ
Jesus.
Phil. 2:1 - If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any consolation from love, any
sharing in the Spirit any compassion and sympathy,
