Catechesis of the Good Shepherd – Londa Hershberger
“The greatest things are for the youngest child.”
– Sofia Cavalletti, founder of CGS
Church of the Holy Spirit Anglican offers a unique religious education program for children ages 3-6 years. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd uses Montessorian instructional methods to help children develop a personal relationship with Our Lord. One of the foundational principles of CGS is to help children “fall in love with Jesus”. The children receive presentations using handcrafted materials and operate independently within the atrium (a specially designed classroom) as a means of facilitating spiritual growth and an interior prayer life. Through the manipulation of materials, such as setting a model altar, working with figures representing the Good Shepherd and his sheep, and arranging flowers to make the atrium beautiful, children quietly focus on the central message of the Christian faith: Jesus is our Savior and wants to be in relationship with us.
It was you who formed my inmost self,
and put me together in my mother’s womb;
for all these mysteries I thank you:
for the wonders of myself,
for the wonders of your works
Psalm 139:13-14, New Jerusalem Bible
First Communion Classes – Fr. Carl Eyberg
Church of the Holy Spirit Anglican uses the SDC First Holy Communion Programme in addition to specialized liturgical instruction given to the children by Fr. Turley.
Christian education is available for pre-K through junior high school students using the liturgically-based curriculum “Growing in Christ”. Throughout the course of three years, children and adolescents learn all the major stories of the Bible, making theological links between the Old and New Testaments, drawing connections to the catechism and hymnal, and developing an understanding of the confession, tradition, and language of the Church.
Youth Group – Seth Whitaker
Youth Group meets each Thursday at the church house from 6-8 pm. Come for dinner, fellowship, and learning. Other activities are planned to build community within the group and reach out through projects of service. The youth group is open to adolescents – grades 6th through 12th. Watch the church calendar for events.
